“Venice is like eating a whole box of chocolate liqueurs in one go.”
This year I had the esteemed privilege of co-chaperoning the exchange trip to Italy. In other words, I supervised an unforgettable two-week student adventure to one of the most incredible countries in the world. I could talk endlessly about the fantastic day trips to Venice, Florence, or Milan. I could talk about the fun we had in Marco Square and the rugby team storming our group photo.
I could talk about Michelangelo’s David and its awe-inspiring size and perfection. I could talk about the beauty of the Piazza del Duomo and the extravagance of Italy’s fashion capital. I could talk about the many impromptu gelato sessions. I could talk about the excitement of being on Piacenza’s local evening news, or being featured in the local paper. I could talk about the amazing pizza living up to its reputation. I could talk about how, in spite of the previous statement, Chicago deep-dish pizza remains supreme. That would, however, be losing focus. I could talk about the joy of watching our students utilize years of language study. I could talk about the incredible feeling of visiting a foreign country. I could talk about the countless number of memories shared, the friendships created, or the tears shed boarding the bus leaving Piacenza that last Friday of our trip. I could talk about all these things and more, but there would still only be one way to get the point across. GO! Go to Italy. Go to feel the culture. Go to see the history. Go to see the art. Go to eat the food. Go to meet the people. Go to speak Italian. Go to be inspired. Because we did... and it was fantastic!
