SCHOOL RESUME TOMORROW FRIDAY FEBRUARY 4, 2011
By now, you have probably heard that CPS schools will reopen tomorrow. However, CPS is not resuming bus transportation until next week. We anticipate teachers' absences which will result in canceled after school programs. We are also waiting to hear from Chess Wizards. We will send an email regarding canceled after school programs tomorrow morning when we have a better image of the situation with teacher attendance.
We do not know yet if students will be excused if they cannot come due to transportation issues.Great chances are that CPS will allow these absences to be excused.
If you drive your child to school tomorrow morning, we are asking that you drop off on Sedgwick, the only street that has been completely plowed and salted around our school as of Thursday 2 pm. We will open the Sedgwick door half an hour earlier than usual (8 am) to allow for better flow of drop off. If you see that Eugenie street has been cleared tomorrow morning, you will be able to also drop off on Eugenie.
We will assess how to organize classes tomorrow morning when we have the final number of teachers and students present. It is possible that your child will not have their regular teacher(s) and that the usual schedule will be changed.
We discussed the removal of snow with the CPS facility manager and the PTA safety committee. CPS snow removal services are right now in a state of emergency and cannot do more at this point than the entrances, school parking lot, and sidewalks. The contractor secured by the PTA will not have the time to plow our playground until Monday. He told us that pushing the snow could pile up to 10 feet. We were able to arrange for only partial clearance of the playground to allow more parking spaces for our teachers due to piles of snow on the parking lot obstructing several parking spots.
Although we would prefer a completely cleared playground tomorrow morning, the height of the piles that would be created is a safety concern. We will re-evaluate the playground situation at the end of the day tomorrow.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we deal with the aftermath of the blizzard.
Best regards,
Elisabeth Heurtefeu
Principal
