Global Festivities at LaSalle
December 20 was a busy day at LaSalle. We hosted the principals of a number of local schools in the new Fullerton network. In addition to visiting classes throughout the school, they were also able to observe some of the cultural enrichment activities from which the students at LaSalle benefit.

LaSalle Language Academy Builds Global Friendships
We are not yet halfway through the school year, and LaSalle Elementary Language Academy is living up to its name, having already hosted two groups of foreign exchange students. In September, a group of eighteen 8th graders and their chaperones from the Instituto Joan Boscá in Barcelona arrived for a two week stay in Chicago.

Math League Competition: 1st place for LaSalle 8th grade!
The first competition for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math team was held on Saturday, November 5 at Lane Tech. Our Mathletes competed in two rounds: individual and 4 person team. There were over 20 schools competing in our division which made the event extremeley competitive.

Alessa Ringo, LaSalle, 2011 Cross Country City Champion!

LaSalle Overseas’ Trips
During Spring Break, LaSalle families hosted Italian students coming from our sister school located in Piacienza, near Milan. Students from France will also visit us at the end of May. Dominique Zinserling won 3rd place in the Student Health’s Anti-Bullying Poster Contest. The organization in charge received 940 posters from 65 schools across the city! SCHOOL RESUME TOMORROW FRIDAY FEBRUARY 4, 2011
By now, you have probably heard that CPS schools will reopen tomorrow. However, CPS is not resuming bus transportation until next week. We anticipate teachers' absences which will result in canceled after school programs. We are also waiting to hear from Chess Wizards. SCHOOL CLOSED FEBRUARY 2nd and 3rd
Chicago Public Schools will remain closed Thursday. CPS spokeswoman Monique Bond said officials decided to keep schools closed a second day and made the decision because they could not "ensure that schools will be safely accessible for students and staff" and felt they could not provide adequate bus service. Unfortunately, the Chinese New Year celebration planned on the 3rd will have to be rescheduled at a later date this month.

Chicago French Market Singers
School activities did not end on Friday December 17th for Ms. Nelson and Ms. Veitch, our two French teachers and a group of thirteen enthusiastic 7th and 8th grade French students who had been coming to school early every Wednesday morning throughout November and December, to rehearse a selection of traditional French seasonal songs.

LaSalle 21st Annual Posada
La Posada is the name of the ritual reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging in Bethlem, that occurs for nine days before Christmas in Mexico and other Latin American countries. A procession of neighborhood children and adults play the roles of Maria, José, angels, shepherds and pilgrims (peregrinos). They look for lodging by going house to house and singing Christmas songs and the traditional ten verse call-and-response song, Pidiendo Posada (Begging for Shelter).
